David Piccini is Ontario’s Minister of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development, and Member of Provincial Parliament for Northumberland—Peterborough South.

As Ontario’s Minister of Labour, David is delivering on our government’s Working for Workers commitment, including ground-breaking changes in the recently introduced fifth Working for Workers bill such as: bringing the lowest duration of service for presumptive skin cancer coverage for firefighters and wildland firefighters; requiring menstrual products on larger construction sites and requiring clean, sanitary washrooms to encourage more women to join the skilled trades; ending the practice of “ghosting” jobseekers by requiring employers to respond to people they have interviewed and disclose whether a job ad is for a real vacancy; giving students more opportunities to participate in experiential learning in the skilled trades with apprenticeship through the new FAST stream of OYAP; putting patients before paperwork by prohibiting employers from requiring a sick note from a medical professional for an employee’s 3 days of unpaid leave; and removing barriers to employment by enabling newcomers to continue working in their chosen trade.

Previously, he served as Minister of Environment, Conservation, and Parks, where he led historic protection of greenspace and biodiversity; led the transition of Ontario’s blue box program to producer responsibility with some of the highest recycling standards in North America; new clean air standards; the largest commitment to protect caribou in Ontario’s history; and one of the largest industrial decarbonization projects in Canada’s history – critical to Ontario’s EV automotive supply chain.

David is a proud resident of Port Hope, where he currently lives with his wife and two dogs.
